Originating in 1885, automobile company Wanderer later becoming a branch of Audi, as did the company NSU.

In 1899, August Horch established the company A. Horch & Cie, but when he set up a second automobile company a dispute meant that he could not use his own name for the company and so in 1910 was born Audi, a Latin derivation of his surname. The first Audi car rolled off the production line the same year. Audi later merged with three other companies which led to the four-ring logo. Their slogan Vorsprung durch Technik, translates as “advancement through technology”.

A history of automobile excellence has followed and nowadays Audi are based in Ingolstadt, Germany and are part of the ‘German big 3’ with BMW and Mercedes-Benz, who combined are the biggest suppliers of luxury cars in the world.
